Most fair dates I have come across are
booked and
organized by a small group of people, if not one person. The
stereotypical
event persona responsible for booking the entertainment seems to be a
50+ year
old woman, highly motivated and educated with a deep sense of pride in
her
community. I include this generalization only to help you realize whom
you are
most often going to be dealing with. They are generally seen as a sort
of
pillar in the community for taking on the somewhat thankless task of
organizing
the event.
They are some of the nicest people who
you will
ever get to work with in your entertainment career. Often they know
little to
nothing about staging a show such as yours, but are probably pretty
familiar
with dealing with bands. This can be a mixed blessing.
Don't be surprised if when dealing
with them they
are slightly standoffish or apprehensive towards you at first. It has
been my
experience that many are constantly worried about their bands showing
up drunk
or late. By breaking this stereotype and being very easy to work with,
you will
be building good friendships and job security.
