In a
way,
working the fair date circuit is a little like working a cruise ship.
You get
to travel a lot, and there is a lot of relaxing down time. It is true,
you
don’t have waitresses bringing you margarita’s
every hour
as you sun on the
deck overlooking the ocean, but once on the road, life is pretty stress
free, a
lot of fun, and very relaxing. I tend to use a lot of downtime to play
golf and
go fishing!
When I
started targeting the fair market, being booked all the time was very
important
to me. I didn’t have a family and responsibilities at home,
and I
had a limited
amount of time to make a maximum amount of money. This is why I
designed my
“system” to keep me living on the road in an
economical yet
comfortable way. I
came to realize that if I was parked at a fair and doing shows, I was
making
money. If I was rolling down the road, I was spending money.
You may
decide that you wish to pursue this market only part time to supplement
other
income from shows or a regular job. In that case you will most likely
be
working closer to home and may not need to live on the road.
Either
way
if you put your mind to it, you will be able to make it work. There are
literally hundreds of fairs all around where YOU live. Let's go find
them!
